Situated on the island’s south coast, Playa Del Ingles literally translates as the English beach. However, it is not simply a resort for cheap package holidays being picked up by UK tourists who are seeking late deals in the sun. In the resort you will also find plenty of tourists from Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands and Germany who are looking for some respite from the northern European winter - all of which adds to the generally relaxed atmosphere of the town. Play Del Ingles also caters for luxury holidays, too, although it certainly is possible to find self catering apartments, if that is your preference.
Unsurprisingly, the beach is at the heart of the resort. It extends in an attractive bay for just over 4 kilometres. The fine white sands of the beach eventually join up with the nearby Playa de Maspalomas which is just as worth discovering. The two beaches make up what is widely regarded as the most stunning bay in Gran Canaria and the shallow waters make it great for little ones, too. If you like a little adventure then try your hand at one of the many watersports that can be tried in Playa Del Ingles. These includes parasailing, water skiing, speedboat rides and even jet skiing.
There are a number of upmarket shopping centres in the resort which cater for those tourists taking luxury holidays. However, there is something to suit every budget in terms of shopping and Yumbo is a large centre which has everything that you might need. The resort is crammed full with a wide variety of eateries. You can find high-quality restaurants, traditional-style tapas bars as well as fast food outlets. In terms of nightlife, Playa Del Ingles tends to revolve around its bars which pump out music and ply their trade with happy hours and discounts.
The resort is a popular choice amongst the under-thirties who are looking for a lively place to spend their holidays. Nevertheless, the beach is very sensibly sectioned off and families should not be put off going there because of the family areas that you can find easily. It is certainly possible to enjoy a family holiday in the area, but make sure that you book into a family-friendly hotel to avoid any problems. This is good advice in any resort you might head to, but especially worth checking beforehand in a lively place like Playa Del Ingles.
