There's no doubt that El Gouna is quite a unique resort in Egypt. Being built upon a sequence of little islands surrounded by lagoons and connected by a series of quaint looking stone bridges and canals, El Gouna can be a real delight, particularly at night with its subtly lit waterways glowing a delightful shade of turquoise as night falls. You'll feel like you're walking amidst some sort of Arabian Venice as you amble along its streets. You can even hire a gondola just to maximise the Venetian feel.
El Gouna's Nightlife
There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs such as the open air Palladium to while away the evening and on into the small hours. For something more relaxed try a fancy cocktail as you watch the sun set cast the buildings aflame with a myriad of colours as evening descends. Much of the nightlife centres around both Kafr el Gouna and Abu Tig Marina. There's also a casino for those who fancy their chances.
Beaches and Things to Do
Beaches are plentiful ranging from the lively well attended sort that end their days in beach parties and beach BBQs, to the quieter and secluded kind a little farther out. There are plenty of water sports and beach activities too for the adventurous from windsurfing to sailing to kite surfing. Go karting is also an option if you want to get that adrenaline pumping without getting wet. El Gouna, and the Red Sea, is a mecca for diving enthusiasts and a range of trips can be booked in order to explore the wonders of eerie ship wrecks and colourful reefs that lay beneath the surface. If diving beneath the surface isn't your thing, then snorkelling can be equally enthralling with the Red Sea's multiplicity of fish and corals.
Endless blue skies are pretty much a given throughout the year as are the refreshing sea breezes that sweep up from the Red Sea which are most welcome in July and August when temperatures can reach 35C. Great if you like nothing more than cooling off in the sea.
There's plenty to see throughout the week in El Gouna. Sunday and Thursday evenings see the Tamr Henna Square come to life with authentic oriental entertainment and performances. On Mondays and Fridays the Marina Street Festival puts on live bands and other entertainment from an assortment of artists. A lot of the hotels lay on shuttle buses for the marina so transport is no problem.
