The massies and the watch towers
The old town nestling in the nearby hills is festooned with beautiful old houses dating from between the 14th and 19th century called Masia, a construction style peculiar to the area. You'll notice, too, curious historical watch towers, or Torres de Vigilancia, dotted here and there. These fascinating architectural features were constructed back in the days when the area came under attack from pirates. In fact the area played such a prominent role in surveying the seas for approaching marauders that Santa Susanna was named the Watch tower of Costa del Maresme.
