About Puerto del Carmen
Puerto Del Carmen has become one of the main holiday destinations for UK holiday travelers, with great dinning options and plenty to do. Additionally with its lack of high rise buildings and its almost perfect all year weather makes this an even more popular destination.
Holidays to Puerto del Carmen
In the UK, when we hear 'holidays', we tend to think of summertime, when schools are closed and prices are higher. But many people are taking advantage of lower prices to enjoy a cheap holiday and get away from the winter weather. If you’re booking winter holidays, you should make sure it’s in a place that still has plenty to offer at that time of year. Puerto del Carmen is one of those places.
Lanzarote enjoys year-round pleasant weather, with averages of around 25 degrees Celsius from June to August and around 16 degrees Celsius during the winter. Travellers from the UK would describe that temperature as cool, rather than cold and at about four hours away, by plane, it’s a trip even small children should be able to endure, making it a real option for a family holiday. There are great beaches and plenty to explore on the island. This particular resort is the largest on Lanzarote
and features Playa Grande, one of the island's best tourist beaches, as well as backing onto a small picturesque fishing area. Its location is the reason that Puerte del Carmen has some of the best fresh fish dishes available.
Things to do
The main attraction is the Playa Grande and its many water-based activities, such as deep-sea fishing, diving, jet-skiing, snorkelling and the ever-popular windsurfing. The other big attraction is the Rancho Texas Amusement Park, which is great for children, with an animal park featuring bison, snakes, cougars and cute prairie dogs as well as much more. It also has a water park, with pools and exciting slides for the whole family as well as shows, such as sea lion performances. There are restaurants where you can get delicious, but plain, food and if you are hungry at the end of your busy day, the Wildhorse Saloon runs a Wild West barbecue at night.
Family fun in the winter sun
As well as the Rancho Texas, there are several family-friendly resorts in Puerte del Carmen, including the ClubHotel Riu Paraiso and the Hotel Riu Olivina. The Paraiso is just 30 metres from the Playa de los Pocillos beach and the all inclusive deals
are perfect for sunshine Christmas holidays with the family. With two pools, which are heated during winter, as well as a playground and supervised children’s clubs, complete with entertainers, the children will never be bored. There’s plenty for adults too, with four pools and a poolside Mexican bar, a health and beauty centre and a complimentary gym with a bio-sauna as well as a great many sports and keep-fit classes. Six nights a week, there is a night club and a range of onsite evening entertainment. The food has a great reputation, so you won’t have any difficulty getting your money’s worth out of the three main restaurants and many small snack bars.
Perfect for singles or couples
For single visitors, who don't need to worry about children being too tired or whether they’re entertained, the island is open for exploration. For sporty types, there’s a great range of activities here, such as surfing, cycling or even diving off the coast of the old town. For those who want to take it easier, there are great beaches and restaurants that serve freshly-caught fish, such as the Purple Turtle, which is an excellent place to meet other people who are getting to know the area alone.
If singles or couples are hoping to find a child-free base, then San Francisco Park is ideal. It’s a peaceful resort that is well-placed for access to the beaches, golf-courses, local restaurants and tourist attractions. From here, visitors can take tours to view the island's volcanic landscape or hire a boat to enjoy a romantic trip around the bay. Shopping in Puerto del Carmen provides a choice that ranges from a quaint market to big supermarkets that stock brands which are familiar to UK travellers and there are souvenirs to suit every pocket.
Great choice of hotels
The hotels around here cater for many budgets, from all inclusive to budget self-catering, and the accommodation varies from La Florida's compact apartments to luxury hotel suites like those in Las Costas.
