About Palma Nova
A gentle 20 minutes away from Palma de Mallorca Airport, is the popular resort of Palma Nova. Proximity to the airport makes this one time little fishing village in South West Majorca a popular choice, but it's also a little quieter than nearby Magaluf. A great location for a family holiday, Palma Nova has plenty of dining options, bars, and clubs, and you’ll also find a wide range of hotels for all tastes, whether you’re looking for self catering or really want to relax in an all inclusive.
Great Beaches and Restaurants
No traveller could possibly come to this part of the beautiful Balearic island and not be drawn to the beaches. Palma Nova boasts three Blue Flag beaches. The golden sands of Playa de Palma Nova are close to the harbour and the beach is great for families. There are plenty of water sports, sun loungers, and beach bars. The beach extends out from the Passeig Maritim, the sea front promenade, that runs parallel to the beach, which forms a long strip of bars, restaurants, and clubs. You’ll be spoilt for choice. Here you’ll find traditional Spanish tapas bars along with international cuisine including Indian, Chinese, Italian, and more besides. For those on the go, or just having a quick break from the beach, there’re plenty of fast food outlets too.
Playa de Son Maites is also a good choice with its crystal clear waters. There are a few bars and restaurants on the beach to grab a cool beer as you walk barefoot on the powdery sand or just want to sit and watch the sun sink into the sea.
The other Blue Flag beach is Playa Es Carregador, another beach of fine white sands that is replete with water sports and nearby restaurants. Or, if you want to escape the crowds, head for the rocky little cove called Son Caliu Beach. This is a great place to unwind and you'll see some some great views of the port.
So if you want to just relax in the sun, or want to fly over the sparkling Mediterranean in a paraglider, the beaches in Palma Nova can cater for both.
Fun For The Kids!
For those with children with plenty of energy to burn, the nearby Western Water Park is a great option where they can splash around and slide down the gigantic water slides to their hearts' content.
Another good choice for those on a family holiday is the Marineland dolphinarium where you can get up close to these amazing creatures. Along with dolphins you will also see penguins, parrots, sea lions, and even sharks! The dolphins at Marineland will put on a great show for you. But it’s not all for the sakes of entertainment, as the centre is instrumental in the recovery of stranded sea turtles who are later released back into the ocean.
If you’re considering a day trip, you could do no better than heading for nearby Palma with its magnificent cathedral and promenades lined with palm trees. Palma contrasts sharply with the coastal resorts and offers a glimpse of some authentic Spain. There are plenty of guided tours throughout the year, but if you just want to wander around at your own pace through the old medieval streets, then there’s plenty of delightful architecture to keep you interested. For those partial to shopping, there’s a wealth of choice for browsing. If you decide to do it alone, the number 50 sightseeing bus which runs around every 20 minutes will be your best option
