About Costa del Silencio
Due to its pleasant weather and spectacular scenery, gorgeous Tenerife is known as one of the 'Blessed Islands', a nickname given to the Canary Islands. Nearly five million tourists visit the island every year in search of sunny weather, lovely beaches, an exciting nightlife, and great value for money on their holidays abroad. The Costa del Silencio area (Silence Coast) is a popular package holiday destination located in the southern part of Tenerife, and is one of the first sun and beach resorts developed in the island. Packed with great accommodation options, expansive beaches, shopping outlets, and surrounded by dramatic landscapes and pretty fishing villages, Costa del Silencio is the perfect introduction to life in the Canary Islands. The region is conveniently located only 20 minutes away from Tenerife South airport, which means that holidaymakers can step off the plane and jump into the island's glorious beaches in virtually no time.
When to go to Costa del Silencio
The good news about booking a holiday to Costa del Silencio is that there isn't such a thing as a bad time of the year to visit this resort. The island's weather has often been called 'an eternal spring', as average temperatures are in the region of 20°C year round. Rain is rather scarce and blue sunny skies are pretty much guaranteed between May and October. During the summer, hot winds from the Sahara can bring daytime temperatures to the high 20s and visitors can enjoy up to 10 hours of sunshine every day (especially in July and August). Sea temperatures are warm enough for swimming and for practising water sports until the end of October, and even during the coldest month (January), temperatures rarely go below 21°C.
Where to Stay
The accommodation options in Costa del Silencio cater to all travellers and budgets. Cheap family holiday deals are available in the all-inclusive resorts and aparthotels near Las Galletas. Three-star resorts can also be found along the road to Playa de las Americas. Those looking for an upscale holiday should consider the luxury hotels located on the outskirts of Las Galletas and near the golf courses, where four-star accommodation facilities will satisfy the most demanding guests.
Attractions & Events
The vast majority of visitors come to Costa del Silencio in search of sunny weather, great beaches, and a varied range of entertainment options. In terms of beach life, one of the best options is in Las Galletas, a sandy beach located within walking distance of most hotels and ideal for families with young children due to its shallow waters. Las Galletas beach is also a great snorkelling spot. Many visitors venture beyond this resort to explore other first-class beaches, such as nearby El Medano, Los Cristianos, or Las Americas, which can be reached from Costa del Silencio easily and inexpensively via public transport. If you are after a remote and secluded feel, El Fraile beach might be just what you are looking for, especially in the early mornings or during the shoulder season.
Other things to do in Costa del Silencio include surfing, taking scuba diving lessons, going on boat trips around the dramatic coast of southern Tenerife, and visiting Siam Park, a themed waterpark that will be a hit with the younger ones in the family. There are two excellent golf courses in the vicinity of Costa del Silencio too. Important events include the colourful Carnival (February) and the Folk Festival (October).
